Louis A. S. Bellinger
=========
Louis Arnett Stewart (or Stuart) Bellinger was our first successful Black architect. His best-known work is the Pythian Temple on Centre Avenue, later the New Granada theater.
The book *African American Architects: A Biographical Dictionary, 1865–1945* includes a list of his works. It is not completely reliable: for example, it lists the Pythian Temple as demolished, whereas it still stands, now stripped of some of its later accretions. Nevertheless, it is our best starting point. We have gone through the list, picked out the buildings that are in Pittsburgh or nearby and are not listed as “demolished,” arranged them by date, noted their current status, and added Google Street View images.
